Lucia Lo and Shuguang Wang's 1997 paper "Settlement Patterns of Toronto's Chinese Immigrants: Convergence or Divergence?" (PDF format) is a useful, if somewhat dated, overview of trends of settlement of ethnic Chinese immigrants in the Greater Toronto Area. These Chinese immigrants, it should be noted, don't come only from the Greater China of the People's Republic, Taiwan, and the former British and Portuguese possessions, but also from Southeast Asia in any number of circumstances. It's not much of a leap to predict that such a vast and diverse wave of immigrants would do different things, move to different places, experience different career trajectories and life experiences. Lo and Wang demonstrate just how things went.
