[C22] France in the late 2140s
Nov. 3rd, 2005 12:19 pmFrance seems to be doing very well in terms of social development. The French standard of living--compare the UN's human development index--is among the highest in the world, technological researches are proving enormously productive, the population continues to grow sharply and is fast approaching the 100 million mark. Happily, the offworld expansion is proceeding successfully, with two million people in Earth orbit, two extrasolar planetary colonies with populations the hundred thousand range and another two with half that population, and a fleet of FTL transports up to the task of supporting all seven of them.
Bad news? Turn 9 GDP per capita growth has been flat. It turns out that making massive long-term investments in offworld holdings, while potentially quite profitable in the long term, really cuts into your bottom line in the short term.
Well, nothing to do but reduce bureaucracy and taxes further while accelerating my program of offworld development and trying to modernize my military for interstellar conflicts. Hopefully the game will respond by giving me a boomlet or two.
