1. Woody's (467 Church Street) is a fun bar to hang out at, for people-watching.
2. The Zeldatini martini available at Zelda's (542 Church Street) for $6.25 on Friday and Saturday evenings, even with vodka instead of gin, is so sharp as to remind the imbiber that alcohol is toxic.
3. The Ferret and Firkin (720 Spadina Avenue) is a classic student pub.
4. People were watching last night's game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens, carried on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, at both Zelda's and The Ferret & Firkin.
5. At the Ferret & Firkin, I noticed two friends, both quite drunk (12 pints of Stella Artois and one pint of Rickard's Red between then), carrying on the same discussion they had for the previous decade. (I wasn't eavesdropping. They were talking loudly.) It reminded me strongly of the dialogue I'd heard over at Woody's.
