I am not entirely convinced by David Lat's distinction in degrees of legitimacy between objections to same - sex marriage and interracial marriage. There's a genuine legal distinction in US law arising from the 14th Amendment and levels of scrutiny. But speaking morally, I am pretty sure there have been many justifications of racial discrimination on supposed grounds of biology, sociological fact and freedom of conscience that sound exactly like the one he cites about anti-gay discrimination. And in fact of thing that worries me about caving to some cases of anti-gay discrimination is that people are going to try to use these same arguments to bring racial discrimination back.
