[NON BLOG] CFTAG After-Report
Oct. 2nd, 2005 11:27 pmI was pleased to meet up with
acrabtree and L. for an enjoyable afternoon spent discussing such spoilers-filled things as the metaplots of Babylon 5, eating sushi, and browsing one used bookstore run by Larouchites.
acrabtree raises the possibility that abundant bacterial life in various marginal planetary ecologies--on Titan, Mars, and elsewhere--might managed to evolve into sophisticated, even sentient, collective organisms. Combine this with David Brin's suggestion that most Earth-like worlds have more water than Earth and that sophont species tend to be aquatic, and you might have a future where humans form a sort of middleman minority, convenient intermediaries capable of transporting materials and information from one world to the next.
